The Dolphin
UTOPIA VERIFIED JAN 2026412 Crown St, Surry Hills 9331-4800
A favourite of Surry Hills creatives and lovers of quality food and drink. It's multi-zoned funland of wine, cocktails, handmade pizzas and ce-cold beer. The terrace is the place to be in summer, underneath black-and-white-striped umbrellas with locally-made mortadella in one hand and a pre-batched Delfino Negroni in the other. Try the Dining Room for a dinner worthy of writing home about, or head to the Wine Room to sip over 300 wines by the bottle and 100 by the glass.

Stylish modern bar with great location on the Walsh Bay wharves with harbour views. As the name suggests, martinis are the specialty here, in more than a dozen styles, as well as other scrumptious cocktails. Sit outdoors in the warm weather to take in the fresh air and cruising (on the water, of course).

Middlebar
383-387 Bourke St (above Kinselas), Darlinghurst
Models, fashionistas, and glam wanna-bes (plus handsome staff!). Have a Death by Chocolate or Melon Matrix cocktail on the balcony overlooking Taylor Square. But, grab a choice seat early because this place starts packing them in after 10:30pm. The friendly owner knows many spots in the city.

Another good gay bar with a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere (if you're the type of person who gets sick of places where guys just go to show off their chests).

The Slip Inn
111 Sussex St (at the corner of King St) 9299-4777, 8297-7000, email
A short walk from Town Hall Station or Wynyard Station. This celeb magnet has four bars and two club areas. The Slip Bar has pool tables and Thai food, and the Sand Bar offers more privacy for chilling out. The garden overlooks Darling Harbour. The music is lush, the staff are brilliant and clearly enjoy their jobs. Plus, the food is great and the crowd worth oogling.

Stonewall Hotel

Comments from Utopians:
"The Bearded Tit closed down a few months ago, unfortunately, after being in operation for 11 years. Riley Hotel at 77 Oxford St has a great bar that serves food and usually has a live DJ on Fri and Sat nights. While it isn't a gay bar as such, most of the staff are gay and can provide information on the local scene. There is security out the front who will keep drunk pests away. The cocktails in the bar are amazing and the staff are super friendly. Definitely worth a look if you are on Oxford St!" -- Isaac W, Nov 22, 2025

- Imperial Hotel
UTOPIA VERIFIED JAN 202635 Erskineville Rd, Erskineville 9519-9899
A recent face lift and new lighting has only accentuated the dazzle at this famous Sydney drag bar, the location of club scenes in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert". Catch one of the all-pro shows in Priscilla's Bar, their cabaret. Five a night on weekends! Downstairs dance space. Open late. Attracts every kind of being around so it's also dished as being like the cantina from Star Wars (bitch!).

Comments from Utopians:
"This longtime gay bar and has cabaret style drag shows with dinner, but is also a regular gay bar with awesome staff, two floors with a cocktail
bar upstairs and plenty of local publications about what's on in the Sydney gay scene. Very cruisy on a Fri or Sat night, but also great for a nice cocktail in the afternoon. Open Mon/Tue 4-10pm, Wed/Thu 4-11pm, Fri 4pm-3am, Sat noon-4am, and Sun noon-10pm." -- Isaac W, Nov 22, 2025
