Travel & Resources: EAST TIMOR / TIMOR-LESTE

Advisory: Same-sex sexual activity is not illegal in East Timor, however same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections as married straight couples. Timor-Leste is considered a leader on human rights including LGBT rights in Asia. In 2011, the country signed the U.N. joint statement on ending acts of violence and related human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity. In July 2017 the country's first Pride March was conducted with the support of the Timorese Government. Participants included LGBT citizens, tribal folk, government officials, stuents and religious representatives.

Please help us keep these listings current and correct. Special thanks to Robert S. and Dede!
