LANGKAWI / PULAU LANGKAWI (Kedah) -- area code (60-4)

General Information

Langkawi is an archipelago of 100 islands in the Andaman Sea, adjacent to Thailand -- a little bit of paradise that is waiting to be discovered. The largest island is Pulau Langkawi with a population nearing 60,000 (that's about 2,500 Utopians). The only other inhabited island is nearby Pulau Tuba. As one local Utopian reports, "Although it is very hard to locate us here at Langkawi, there are PLU on Langkawi, but we are very careful due to we are on an island and our parents and friends are here...so pandai pandai, lah."

      Comments from Utopians:

"Pantai Tengah - Sunba is a mixed pub with retro music and live band. Very gay friendly staff." -- Aries7, May 26, 2008

"Chime at Sheraton can be interesting on Mon. Got lucky a few times, not just with locals but rather delightful tourists. Worth checking out!" -- sydney2008, Mar 24, 2008

"I stay on Langkawi Island. The gay community here is not really exposed to the public, but a few bars (mostly mixed) are places people can meet other gays, especially in Chenang Beach: Debbie Places Bar, Jungle Bar and Sunba Pub at Pantai Tengah. Lighthouse Restaurant also. " -- gregross, May 16, 2007
