"Have just returned from my 3rd visit to Dickman Resort . It's a great place to relax and unwind. This time I hardly stirred from my balcony or the pool area and left after 9 nights feeling very relaxed. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport (a real advantage as traffic in Sri Lanka is bad). The pick-up service has always worked really well for me. The hotel is secluded, not overlooked and a couple of hundred meters away from the beach road. Don't miss the enormous fruit breakfast (plus bacon and eggs and cheese if you have room). Light snacks are served until early evening but you'll need to go elsewhere for dinner - there are lots of good and cheap eating options 5-10 mins walk away - especially fish and seafood. The staff are really friendly and keep the place very clean and tidy. They will look after you and run errands if you need anything. In-room massage can be arranged and is better and cheaper than going elsewhere. I'd recommend one of the two rooms with a balcony overlooking the pool. The rooms are tastefully decorated and have aircon, satellite TV, DVD and lovely toiletries. Wifi (free on certain packages) is very good in the rooms but a little patchy in some of the other areas - but it's easy and cheap (US$15) to get a local 3G SIM card at the airport - ideal if you are going to do some traveling). The pool is about 20m long and surrounded by loungers with fresh beach towels. There's plenty of shade if you need it or sun if you want a tan. There's a small bar - ideal for a sundowner with other guests or with the cheerful staff. For those who prefer a gay-run hotel it's a great place and ideal if you are traveling alone as you will be made to feel very welcome by the owners Dick and Damith and their very attentive staff." -- Mike, Oct 2, 2013
