Comments from Utopians:
"Spent a lovely three days at the Babylon Barracks recuperating from jet lag on my way to Phnom Penh. Stayed in one of the Baroness suites, which are really comfortable and equipped with luxury hotel amenities. The balcony on 7/F overlooks all of BKK. You get two passes a day for the Babylon Sauna which has great facilities, nice restuarant and big pool. It's the ultimate wet dream." -- top8guy, Mar 15, 2007
"My nice stay at the Babylon Barracks was ruined on the last day by the manager, who had offered me a 15% discount (without my asking for it) if I stayed 2 weeks. I did stay for more than 2 weeks, but the manager subsequently presented me with a bill without the discount as promised. She cared little about honoring her word and insisted I pay in full. I won't stay here again." -- Steven100, Mar 6, 2007

Le Residence
173/8-9 Suriwong Rd, 02-233-3301, FAX 02-237-9322, email.
Perennial favorite for long-time visitors who swear by the friendly, reliable staff and management. Small rooms, but nicely decorated. The Silom/Suriwong night scene is just a short walk away.
Comments from Utopians:
"I stayed at La Residence Hotel for three nights. I paid B$2000 for a normal, standard room. Every time I brought a guest, regardless of overnight or not, they automatically charged B$500 to the bill. They don't allow guests to stay more than one hour or they will charge this extra fee." -- mouse, Dec 8, 2007
"La Residence feels more like staying in your own apartment than in a hotel. The manager and staff are incredibly nice and helpful. The single rooms are small, clean (nice minimal modern decor -- sort of feels like a college dorm room). It's located next to Somboon Seafood, a short walk from the Saladaeng or Chong Nonsi BTS Sky Train stations. Safe, quiet, clean, inexpensive, friendly. Does not have the best breakfast in town but you can get that elsewhere if you want." -- fsnyc, Sept 14, 2006

Very inexpensive: rates start at less than US$20 per night.
Comments from Utopians:
"I stayed at the Om Yim Lodge and had a nice experience. It is basic, but clean. Large rooms. Good breakfast. Very business-like (I expected the staff to be more friendly), but they were helpful with questions. It is ideally located right by the Chong Nonsi Skytrain Station. I would definitely stay here again." -- chakra88, Mar 23, 2008
"Spent a nice week at Om Yim Lodge. Nice clean and comfortable rooms.
Centrally located (50m from the BTS entrance). Free Internet access. Restaurant with delicious food. Friendly and efficient management/staff." -- peterperfect, Dec 6, 2006
17 Soi Ngam Duplee (just in from Rama IV Rd), 02-287-0111, FAX 02-287-3420, email. Gay-managed and gay-friendly. Moderately priced rooms in this tourist-class hotel are popular with gay frequent visitors (this is where Japan's famous gay erotic artist, Sadao Hasegawa, chose to end his career).
Comments from Utopians:
"I stayed at the Pinnacle Hotel in Oct and found it to be great; excellent service, good breakfast and a nice clean room. All the help was very friendly. The ladies that cleaned my room were excellent and very friendly. They always tried their best to talk in English. I highly recommend the Pinnacle for its value and location close to the subway. The lobby is NOT infested with hustlers!" -- irisheyes, Nov 13, 2007
"I stayed at Pinnacle Hotel, near Lumphini MRT. The place is nice because it's easy to access, close to Lumphini MRT. I had an Economy Room with a shared bathroom. The room was simple and clean, bathroom also very clean. It cost me B$550/night including a nice breakfast buffet. Lots of gay stay here. My dislikes were that the public phone didn't work and the Internet was very, very expensive." -- cosmo30, Jun 21, 2007
3 Convent Rd, 02-233-5345, FAX 02-236-9425, email. A gay-friendly 4-star boutique hotel one block from the gay pubs on Silom 4. Rooms are plush with safe, cable TV, phone and Internet. They also have a small pool. Their restaurant serves, guess what? Swiss cuisine.
Comments from Utopians:
"I have stayed at the Swiss Lodge in April this year and was disappointed. I booked a suite and thought that it was dull and poorly furnished." -- melbguy, Aug 23, 2006

"I stayed at the Tarntawan Place last month. My experience was wonderful...lovely room, terrific service and amenities. A truly terrific experience." -- veniceCA, Apr 4, 2008
"Tarntawan Place is a good 3-star hotel. The desk personnel are very sweet and helpful. They have free safety deposit boxes to lock your valuables in. Rooms are a good size and decent, clean with amenities. Location is perfect, easy, right in the heart of busy Suriwong but tucked back in a safe, quiet cul-de-sac. Breakfast is not buffet style and is adequate, average (some Bangkok breakfasts are wonderfully over the top!). This hotel is a good choice." -- fsnyc, Sep 14, 2006
"Tarntawan has suites and standard rooms and both are good. It is gay-friendly and close to bars, clubs, etc." -- melbguy, Aug 23, 2006

Comments from Utopians:
"LOVE staying at regular hotels with gay cruising at the pools. Have picked up guys in hotel saunas/steam rooms at Davis Hotel and Amari Watergate." -- hairybear, May 1, 2008
"I live in BBB Inn each time I come to Bangkok. The room is small, the water is slow, and normally there is no hot water during night time when you want to take shower. No breakfast, but they charge B$1200 for one day. It's quite expensive for such a room. What's nice about this hotel is the staff are very friendly. Furthermore it's near to Duangthawee Plaza where many of the major bars are located. Within a minutes walk." -- williamhoo81, Apr 15, 2008
"Check out the Rose Hotel on Suriwong Rd. Newly renovated and beautiful, with a big swimming-pool." -- otto3352, Feb 1, 2008
"Rose Hotel, Suriwong is a very nice hotel. Not very expensive: B$2,000 per night and the boss is a gay man. Very cool" -- dialij, Jan 16, 2008
"Take A Nap is a new, small hotel around Suriwong (three minutes walk from the nightlife). They have 30 rooms, one family room with four beds, six twins, 13 doubles, six singles and six dorms with 6-7 beds, free wi-fi on all floors, clean and gay friendly. Located at 920-926 Rama 4 Rd (next door to BBB Inn), 02-637-0015, 02-637-0016." -- AndrewWong, Dec 27, 2007
"I stayed at the Plaza Hotel. The price was cheap and you can have guests." -- mouse, Dec 8, 2007
"We spent a night at Aquarius Guesthouse and literally ran away in the morning. The room and the bathroom were very dirty, the sheets were full of stains. We had to wait till 10:30am for somebody to wake up so that we could pay the bill! We were also not offered breakfast which was part of the B$800 rate. Terrible." -- vlcnandtoby, Jul 12, 2007
"I stayed many times at Narai Hotel, Silom Road. Very clean and gay-friendly and you can have guests without extra charge." -- MasterWeiden, Oct 29, 2006
"For a little more high class hotel, I recommend the Lebua at State Tower, an all-suite hotel with fantastic views (all rooms floors 20 up) and a great bar on the rooftop 68th floor. Not gay, but still close to Silom Soi 2 and 4." -- swiss1981, Oct 25, 2006
