Bars and Clubs

    • Boyzone
118/5 Phon Phisai Rd (close to Adulyadej Rd and Nong Sim Park), 081-846-7760, 084-424-3016, email. Located between the Clock Tower and Thungsi Muang in Central Udon Thani. A more traditional western-style gay bar with special show nights a few times per month. Reasonably-priced drinks, cute wait staff, friendly service, great music. Owned and managed by a Thai-western gay couple. Attractive waiters and good selection of drinks.

        Comments from Utopians:

"Visited Udon Thani this last weekend. Boyzone, which we visited on two nights, was nice and the staff were very friendly." -- Trevor, Sep 23, 2011

"Open till midnight or so, with a good range of drinks, nice music and some very handsome waiters." -- talisman, Mar 24, 2011

    • Mr. Tong's Bar (mixed)
Prajak Road, close to the Night Market. Mr. Tong is a very personable Thai-Chinese gay man with probably the most upscale Western-style bar in Udon. It is definitely gay-friendly (very cute staff!), but as many farang - including Western servicemen - frequent the bar, it attracts a lot of 'bar girls'. The bar is now much more straight than before, but gays are always welcome.

        Comments from Utopians:

"Mr Tong's was OK, but predominantly straight." -- Trevor, Sep 23, 2011

    • Yellow Bird (mixed)
Charoen Hotel, 042-248-155, 042-246-121. Gets busy late, and still attracts some gays who mix into the crowd.

      Comments from Utopians:

"There is a new place in town, though only on Tue nights each week. It's at the newly opened U-Turn Club on Prajak Rd, opposite the Preecha Night Market. It's well worth looking in and having some fun." -- talisman, Jan 12, 2012

"A word of warning about City Man bar. This is definitely an 'at your own risk' place. Ask the price of any drink before ordering. Keep careful count of your drinks and under no circumstances allow the manager to sit and drink with you unless you want to pay dearly for the pleasure of having him sit with you. Enough said." -- Somsak, Jan 8,2012

"There's a new place in town, though only on one night a week. The new U-Turn club on Prajak Rd, opposite Preecha night market, is well worth looking in and having some fun." -- talisman, Dec 22, 2011

"City Man was OK to start with, but the manager got drunk and belligerent and would not budge when we pointed out errors in our bill. Would not go there again." -- Trevor, Sep 23, 2011

Waiters are mostly tomboys. Tables of gays and lesbians in their 20s and 30s. Later everyone moves to Yellow Bird Disco.
