Famous Thai country music star and social activist, Ad Carabao, takes a lead role in the forthcoming gay-themed feature film, Phrangchomphoo (Pink Camouflage). Inspired by Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down, the film tells the story of six ladyboys who find themselves trapped in the middle of an armed conflict on the Thai/Burmese border and fall under the protection of a hill tribe leader played by the macho folk singer.

Carabao, whose real name is Yuenyong Ophakul, has been quoted in the local press as saying that even though gays may seem different, they are still part of the human family and deserve the same respect and rights as everyone.

Thailand is currently experiencing a renaissance in film production, with gay topics proving to be popular with the public. Also slated for release shortly are: Beautiful Boxer, the story of champion transgender kick boxer Parinya Nongthum; and the eagerly awaited sequel to the mega-hit movie based on a real-life gay champion volleyball team, Satree Lex (Iron Ladies), directed by Utopia Award winner, Yongyut Thongkongtoon.
